I was introduced to using Vialogues by Terry Elliot. Vialogues allow non-synchronous discussion about OER videos.
Joi Ito modified his motto from “Deploy or Die” to simply “Deploy” upon the advice from Barack Obama. This Vialogue is from a Face Book Live broadcast he did with Seth Godin which was archived on You Tube, Medium, SoundCloud and iTunes.
I’ve been observing several communities of practice for years but seldom participate. Creating publicly is scary and hard for me but I’m realizing that I will better master these literacies by practicing them so here is my first vialogue.
Joi: As a designer instead of thinking about other people, think about yourself. Change the rules for yourself. You can invite other people to the party and be happy that they want it, but do it for your own context and take down barriers so people can see it. Change the world by being a positive deviant.
Seth: Play an infinite game (like playing catch with your kid and you both get better) instead of a finite game (a contests with one winner and lots of losers). If enough of us live a life of paying it forward (leaving behind lots of bread crumbs of value – OER) we don’t have to worry about winning.
